After-School Club Deputy Manager

  

Specialism:  Cooking & Nutrition/Physical Fitness/Mental Wellbeing/Arts & Crafts

Location:  The Community Hub, Factory Quarter, Warple Way, London W3 7DQ

Contract Type: Part-Time, Term-Time Only, Permanent
Hours: 18-24 Hours Per Week
Salary:  £14.50 per Hour
Reports to:   After-School Club Manager/Board of Directors

  

Job Purpose

To support the After-School Club Manager in the effective daily running of a high-quality after-school programme that promotes healthy lifestyles through cooking & nutrition, physical activity, and mental wellbeing. The Deputy Manager will assist in planning, delivering, and evaluating a diverse and engaging programme that supports the development and wellbeing of primary-aged children.

  

Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Management

  • Assist the Club Manager in the day-to-day supervision of the club and deputise in their absence.
  • Support a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all children and staff.
  • Maintain open, effective communication with staff, children, parents/carers, and      the school leadership team.


Programme Delivery

  • Help design and deliver a balanced programme of activities across the three strands:
    • Cooking & Nutrition - simple, hands-on food preparation activities that       promote healthy eating habits.
    • Physical Fitness - age-appropriate physical games and activities that improve coordination, fitness, and enjoyment of movement.
    • Mental Wellbeing -  activities such as mindfulness, emotional literacy games, reflective conversations, and quiet time.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs of children with different abilities and interests.
  • Promote positive behaviour, participation, and teamwork among children.


Health, Safety & Safeguarding

  • Ensure all activities are delivered safely and follow safeguarding procedures.
  • Support safe food preparation and storage practices in line with food hygiene standards.
  • Administer basic first aid as needed (training provided or required).
  • Complete accurate records, including attendance, incidents, and medication      administration, as required.


Team Support & Development

  • Support staff induction, training, and performance under the guidance of the Club Manager.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and reflective practice.

  

Person Specification


Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with primary-aged children in an educational or childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of or qualifications in one or more of the following: practical cooking, nutrition, physical education, child mental health or wellbeing, arts and crafts.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • Ability to lead small groups and support staff confidently.
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Playwork, Childcare, or Health and Wellbeing).
  • Experience in managing or supervising a team.
  • Experience delivering cooking or physical activity sessions.
  • Mental health awareness training.

Job Purpose

To plan, deliver, and supervise high-quality, engaging after-school sessions based on Nourished Routes Wellness Curriculum, which promotes healthy lifestyles through hands-on cooking and nutrition education, physical activity, and mental wellbeing support for primary school-aged children.

  

Key Responsibilities


1. Cooking & Nutrition

  • Plan and lead age-appropriate, hands-on cooking activities aligned with national food education guidelines and Nourished Routes Wellness Curriculum
  • Teach children basic food preparation skills and healthy eating habits in a fun      and safe environment.
  • Ensure all food safety and hygiene regulations are followed.
  • Cater for diverse dietary needs and allergies with appropriate planning and risk assessment.

2. Physical Fitness

  • Lead inclusive, structured physical activities (e.g., games, sports, movement      challenges) to improve physical health and motor skills.
  • Encourage participation, cooperation, and enjoyment in all physical activities.
  • Adapt activities to meet the needs and abilities of all pupils.

3. Mental Wellbeing

  • Facilitate sessions that support emotional literacy, resilience, mindfulness, and      positive peer interaction.
  • Incorporate relaxation techniques, creative play, and reflection activities to help      children unwind and express themselves.
  • Provide a calm and supportive environment where children feel safe, valued, and heard.
  • Incorporate age-appropriate arts and craft activities which reinforce learning of      specific themes and ideas

  

General Duties

  • Maintain a safe, clean, and well-organised space for club activities.
  • Build positive relationships with children, staff, and families.
  • Complete relevant administrative tasks such as registers, incident reports, and      activity evaluations.
  • Attend training and team meetings as required.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, health & safety, and company policies at all times.
  • Promote the ethos and values of the school.

  • Experience working with primary-aged children

After-School Club Support Worker

Reports to:   After-School Club Manager/Deputy Manager

  

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Support Worker to join our After-School Club team at Nourished Routes. While the primary responsibility is maintaining a safe, clean, and hygienic environment, this role plays an important part in supporting our focus areas of cooking & nutrition, physical fitness, and mental wellbeing for children.


Key Responsibilities


Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Maintain cleanliness of all designated areas, including activity spaces, kitchens,      dining areas, and bathrooms used during after-school club hours.
  • Ensure surfaces and equipment used in cooking and food preparation are cleaned and sanitised according to hygiene standards.
  • Regularly empty bins, replace liners, and manage waste disposal appropriately.
  • Ensure safe storage and usage of cleaning materials.


Supportive Duties Related to Program Focus Areas


  • Cooking & Nutrition
    • Clean cooking spaces before and after food-related activities.
    • Ensure hygiene compliance for areas where children are involved in food       preparation or consumption.
    • Assist staff with light tidying tasks after cooking sessions, such as washing       utensils or wiping tables.
  • Physical Fitness:
    • Clean gym mats, sports equipment, and indoor/outdoor areas used for fitness activities.
    • Support safe and clutter-free spaces for active movement.
  • Mental Wellbeing:
    • Help create calm, clean, and organized environments that promote emotional regulation and focus.
    • Prepare and clean designated "wellbeing" or "quiet" zones used for mindfulness, reading, or relaxation activities.
    • Assist in clearing and organising arts and crafts supplies

      

Essential Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience in a cleaning or facilities role (preferably in a school or childcare environment).
  • Understanding of basic hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Awareness of safeguarding and child-safe practices.
  • Reliable, responsible, and able to work independently.
  • Positive attitude toward children’s wellbeing and development.

  

Desirable:

  • Basic food hygiene or cleaning certification.
  • Interest or experience in child-centred environments, particularly those promoting healthy lifestyles.
  • Willingness to attend relevant training (e.g. food hygiene, first aid, safeguarding).
